Yamaha YAS-62III Alto Saxophone
About this instrument
A roughly 3-year-old Yamaha YAS-62III in gold lacquer. The 62III itself needs no introduction at this point. What this listing is really about is whether this specific pre-owned unit is worth taking over the brand new option, and the answer comes down to two things: condition and what comes with it.
Condition. No dents anywhere. The lacquer shows light wear on a few high-traffic keys, which is what you would expect after a few years of regular playing. None of it affects the sound or the playability. Honest 7 out of 10 cosmetics, 9 out of 10 mechanically. We have the new version side by side and the difference is purely cosmetic.
The bundle. This is where it gets interesting. The previous owner included both the Selmer S80 mouthpiece (the classical/jazz workhorse upgrade plenty of players move to from the stock 4C) and the original Yamaha 4C the horn shipped with. Plus a working set of Vandoren reeds, the neck strap, ligature, cleaning swab, and cork grease. A new YAS-62III ships with the case and 4C only. The S80 alone is worth chasing.
If the new YAS-62III is on your shortlist but the new-price tag is not, this is the same horn for substantially less, with the upgrade mouthpiece already in the bag.
