Mute-specific questions

What types of mutes do you carry?
Straight mutes, practice mutes, and stop mutes for French horn, trumpet, and trombone. Materials include cherry wood, aluminium, and brass, depending on the maker and the model. If you are looking for a specific mute we do not have on the site, message us. We can usually source it directly from one of our regular makers.
Do handcrafted mutes really sound that different from mass-produced ones?
Yes, and the difference is bigger than most players expect until they try one. Mass-produced mutes often buzz at certain frequencies, choke the sound on loud passages, and pull pitch noticeably (especially in the high register). The mutes we stock are tuned by ear, made from properly seasoned materials, and built to behave consistently across the register.
Can I bundle a mute with an instrument purchase?
Yes, and it usually works out cheaper than buying separately. If you are picking up an instrument from us and you know which mute you want, mention it before checkout and we will work something out.
